Roofing in Connecticut
"When living in areas that have historic homes and neighborhoods it is important to uphold the style when choosing a roof material. "
Homes in Connecticut are usually very traditionally styled and are the face of classiness. It isn’t uncommon to find a home that was built in the late 1800s that is still around today and maintains its period style.
In general, roofs of the homes in Connecticut face two challenges: (1) maintaining the appropriate style and time period of the home and (2) the cold climate.
Class and Style
Connecticut homes come in a variety of styles, each with their own unique details that follow the time period and overall theme of the home. When living in areas that have historic homes and neighborhoods it is important to uphold the style when choosing a roof material.
For many historic homes, traditional asphalt shingles are the best option, as they come in a variety of colors and tones. These shingles can easily be matched to compliment the accent colors used throughout the façade of the home. Asphalt shingles work great for Victorian style homes that have complex shapes and roof lines. They can easily fit the curves of a bay window or hug the shape of a cylindrical tower.
Cold Climate
Since Connecticut gets a few months of cold weather and snow, asphalt shingles or metal roof materials are the best choice for their northern climate. Asphalt shingles are resistant to weather extremes and are fairly low maintenance. Steel or copper metal roofs are also a good choice for snowy conditions as they can easily support the weight of the snow and preserves the integrity of the roof structure.
